How to transfer a .au domain name

Transferring a domain means transferring sponsorship for the domain from one registrar to another for management.

  1. The gaining registrar performs a Request Domain Transfer with password.
    • The transfer is now in pending status.
    • If the transfer was entered mistakenly or the domain owner changed their mind, it can be cancelled. In this case cancel action can only occur within two days of the initial request by gaining registrar.
    • All transfers are automatically approved after 48 hours.
  1. The losing registrar must then either approve or reject the domain transfer. ( Normally happens automatically in 48 hrs unless there is a dispute )
    • When approved, the full details of the domain are transferred to the gaining registrar. Only this registrar can then view or update the full details of the domain.

How to transfer a .com, .net, .biz , .info, .org, .us etc domain name

The Auth Code/EPP Code is required to transfer these domain names. This code is held by the domain Registry; and is used to authenticate a request to transfer from one Registrar to another. The Auth Code/EPP Code for the  domain name can be acquired from the current Registrar of Records. If the domain name is locked (an extra layer of protection against illegal transfer) you can request the current registrar to unlock the domain.

The gaining Registrar will send an email notification to the registrant via the Administration contact email address as listed in the losing registrar's WHOIS. Providing the registrant approves the transfer, the transfer request will be sent to the registry for processing. If the transfer is successful, a confirmation email will be sent to the Administration contact. If the registrant denies the authorisation or fails to respond within 6 days, the request will be cancelled and an unsuccessful transfer email is then sent to the Administration contact.

Please note: The only fee payable to gaining registrar is the minimum (1 year) renewal fee for the Domain Name.
