How do I setup email using Outlook Express?

Note If you are using another email program like Thunderbird or Opera you will need to find the account set up section. (Most email programs follow a similar new account setup process)

Step 1 of 11:

Open Outlook Express. If you have a shortcut to Outlook Express on your desktop (like the one shown to the right), just double-click on the icon. Otherwise, click on the Start button, go to Programs and choose Outlook Express.

Step 2 of 11:

On the Outlook Express menu bar, click Tools and select Accounts.

Step 3 of 11:

Now click the Mail tab, click on Add and select Mail.

Step 4 of 11:

When the Internet Connection Wizard starts, type your name in the Display Name box and click Next. This is the name that will appear in the ?From? field when someone receives a message from you. You can type anything you like.

Step 5 of 11:

Click the button by "I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use" and type in your domain name email address (which is also your Account Name eg. jsmith@yourdomainname.com), then click Next.

Step 6 of 11:

On the next screen, choose POP3 from the pull-down menu. In the 'Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, HTTP) server:' box, type in mail.yourdomainname.com and in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:' box type mail.access-provider.com

Click Next.

Step 7 of 11:

Type in your Account Name, which is your domain name email address, and your Password (sent via email).   Make sure the 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) option is turned off.  If you have selected this your password will be rejected by the server.  click Next.

Step 8 of 11:

On the Congratulations screen of the Internet Connection Wizard, click Finish

Step 9 of 11:

In the Internet Accounts window, click once on the mail account that was just created (this should be called mail.yourdomainname.com.au) and click the Properties button.

Step 10 of 11:

Select the General tab and type in a name like your domain name for your new email account. This can be anything you like ? it?s to help you identify that these are settings for your domain name email account.

Step 11 of 11:

Click OK and then Close. Your Outlook Express is now configured to send and receive your domain name email. If you need help using Outlook Express, click on the Help menu, then Contents and Index.

A domain name (e.g. Cheepa.com.au) is your own unique address on the Internet. It is how your customers will remember you and find you among the millions of other web sites on the Internet.
